The Associate Director of Housing and Residence Life is responsible for administering a comprehensive residence life program for 5,300 residential students. The Associate Director serves as a senior staff member within the Department of Housing and Residence Life (HRL), and will provide oversight of resident student success, academic initiatives, departmental goal setting, strategic planning, crisis management, care efforts, retention efforts and oversees the implementation of the Knowing, Connecting, Empowering relationship development model.
1. Strengthens the residential experience of all residential communities through leadership to the residence life staff and oversee a relationship-based residence life program for 5,200 students living on campus
2. Coordinates the implementation, training and leadership of the Knowing, Connecting, Empowering relationship development model
3. Identify, develop and create communities of cultural discovery, meaningful interactions, reflection, self-awareness and understanding for each resident
4. Innovates and implements resident academic interventions to provide students resources, care, and support to increase student satisfaction, retention, and graduation
5. Implements comprehensive strategic planning efforts, and advances the design and implementation of strategic and operational initiatives
6. Accomplishes departmental objectives by serving as liaison with other departments; develops relationships with key stakeholders to support the University and Housing and Residence Life mission
7. Responds to academic and general concerns about residence hall living from parents, faculty, and others outside the department
8. Provides leadership to students in crisis or emergency situations through the professional staff on-call rotation, crisis response protocols, campus emergencies, OIE/Title IX reports or other care efforts for the campus community
9. Monitors current trends in student housing to determine potential application or impact to the department
10. Develops policies and procedures that creates a positive, relationship-focused residential environment
11. Assists in developing budgets and monitors expenses to ensure alignment with department goals and objectives
12. Participates in the professional staff on-call rotation and periodically adjudicate cases
13. Serves on departmental and university committees, task forces, and participate in other professional development activities
14. Supports the vision and goals of the Director of Housing and Residence Life, standing in when necessary
15. Assists with University wide events such as finals week midnight breakfast, student tailgates, homecoming, family weekend and others
16. Performs other related duties as assigned
• Master’s Degree in Higher Education, Student Personnel Services, Leadership Development, or a related field of study.
• 4 or more years’ experience in residence life and housing or student affairs with experience in curriculum development and academic intervention.
• 6 or more years’ experience in residence life and housing or student affairs with experience in curriculum development and academic intervention.
