Under the leadership of the Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: The Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) is responsible for leading DEI staff in the development of strategies, implementation, and oversight of services within the DEI Office. The Director must be team-oriented, confidential, and a collaborative leader who develops, plans, and implements initiatives maintaining diversity, equity, and inclusion as priority for the Burnett School of Medicine.
1. Develops strategies with key stakeholders to collaboratively support diversity, equity and inclusion in the Burnett School of Medicine.
2. Develops, presents, and implements diversity, equity, and inclusion policies, goals, and objectives; ensures consistency of implementation of administrative and academic policies.
3. Supervises and develops the DEI staff and manages resources/ activities of the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (including, but not limited to, creating and implementing Pipeline/Pathways, or other programs),
4. Advises and confers with staff, within the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, providing technical guidance and confidential problem resolution.
5. Advocates and champions inclusive excellence by integrating diversity, equity, and educational quality efforts into the Burnett School of Medicine’s institutional operations for long-term sustainability.
6. Proactively engages with students and faculty to evaluate trends and identify areas for growth.
7. Develops content and facilitates diversity, equity, and inclusion workshops, trainings meetings, seminars, and orientations for faculty, staff, and students.
8. Together with the Office of Admissions and the Office of Student Affairs, collect and analyze data on student recruitment, retention, and support programs - recommend changes as appropriate.
9. Implements strategies and goals of diversity, equity, and inclusion by working proactively, strategically and collaboratively with stakeholders (e.g., Associate Dean, Student Affinity Groups, Faculty Affinity Groups, etc.).
10. Collaborates with relevant offices, committees, and stakeholders to develop, administer, and analyze data from campus climate faculty and student surveys, institutional reports, or other sources as appropriate.
11. Collaborates with Office of Faculty Affairs and Development to develop and monitor faculty and leadership DEI dashboards to support inclusive excellence across the Burnett School of Medicine.
12. In collaboration with senior leadership at the Burnett School of Medicine, including the HR Director, develops and implements evaluation processes to assess effectiveness of inclusive excellence and department operations; synthesize data to support accreditation and other program evaluation processes.
13. Collaborates with the Associate Dean, lead staff meetings and conduct professional development seminars for staff and faculty.
14. Develops, maintains, and presents budget, reports, and financial projections as directed.
15. Explores funding opportunities; writes and applies for grant support or other funding as appropriate to develop and support programs and services to enhance diversity, equity, and inclusion.
16. Grant preparation and application by providing data and information about diversity, equity, and inclusion.
17. Works with Associate Dean to develop and maintain an advisory committee to support the diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives and priorities for the Burnett School of Medicine.
18. In collaboration with the Office for Admissions, engage in promotional activities for the medical school, such as attending recruiting events (e.g., identify diverse opportunities at HBCU’s, HSI’s, and other URIM).
19. In coordination with outreach efforts at the Burnett School of Medicine, and TCU Main campus builds relationships and partnerships within the community of DFW, as well as in the greater DEI community nationally.
20. Provides back up support for Associate Dean and attends meetings where necessary and appropriate.
21. Arranges external speakers and related event planning details and activities for workshops or events.
22. Serves as member of internal and external School of Medicine committees when directed by Associate Dean.
23. Collaborates activities and initiatives with TCU main campus, like TCU Office of Diversity and Inclusion.
24. Performs other related duties as assigned by the Associate Dean of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
• Master’s degree in a related field.
• 10 years of related diversity and inclusion leadership with demonstrated track record of progressive leadership.
• 5 years of supervisory, and project management experience in a similar role, or relevant supervisory diversity and inclusion office experience in higher and/or medical education, including the training, development, coordination, and evaluation of complex work among a team of staff and/or students (may run concurrently).
• Terminal degree in a related field.
• Experience developing structural, cultural, and related competencies impacting academic development and performance (e.g., first-generation, URIM, students within diverse backgrounds and identities).
• Experience in budgeting, grant writing, and or organizational quality improvement.
• Certificate in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion or related field (e.g., health equity, MedEd)
• Skill in verbal and written communication including the ability to work confidentially and collaboratively with various constituencies in a university setting.
• Skill in organization and time management, with demonstrated ability to plan, coordinate, prioritize, and effectively execute multiple initiatives, programs, and events in order to meet established deadlines.
• Skill in student mentoring, faculty and staff development and training.
• Skill in interpersonal communication with a successful record of cultivating productive collegial relationships in effective teams of various constituencies (e.g., diverse students, faculty, staff, community stakeholders).
• Skill in identifying and writing grants and or securing extramural funds.
• Skill in Microsoft Office-based software applications.
• Skill in effective internal and external networking with the ability to build and sustain key relationships.
• Skill in analysis, research, and synthesis.
• Ability to build and advance institutional diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives for students and/or faculty.
• Ability to collaboratively create and develop mentoring and pipeline programs with measurable outcomes.
• Ability to analyze and evaluate programs, surveys and synthesize feedback.
• Fluidity with diverse communities, cultures, stakeholders, and/or other related demographics within DEI.
• Ability to maintain confidential information related to students and others.

• Able to speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation and general communication.

• Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing and reaching, flexibility, body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling and prolonged sitting.
• Lifting and moving objects and equipment up to 10 lbs.
• Work is indoors and sedentary subject to schedule changes and/or variable work hours.
• This is an in-person, on-campus, student-facing position. Some travel required. Majority of work occurs in an office environment, however, time will also be spent at affiliated sites and in the community.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends.
• There are no harmful environmental conditions present for this job.
• The noise level in this work environment is moderate.
