Job Summary:

The Grounds Assistant is responsible for aiding in all facets of landscaping and grounds as part of the grounds team. This role has a work schedule of 30 hours per week from 7 a.m.-2 p.m. The working hours may be altered with based on rising needs or campus events.

Duties & Essential Job Functions:

1. Weedeats, edges, mows, pulls weeds, picks up trash, changes out trash cans, rakes leaves, trims shrubs, and participates in other landscape-related tasks by hand or using equipment.
2. Participates in planting, mulching, and other landscape projects.
3. Keeps areas clean of debris.
4. Works alone or with a team to complete tasks.
5. Assists with cleanup before, during, and after inclement weather and special events.
6. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:

• Some training with large mowers, line trimmers, and edgers.

Required Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training:

• Satisfactory results from a post-offer physical examination.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Ability to operate equipment required to perform the job.
• Ability to read, write, understand and clearly communicate instructions.
• Ability to apply care and maintenance techniques to landscape and hardscape materials.

Physical Requirements (With or Without Accommodations):

• Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms and other printed materials and information.
• Able to speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation and general communication.
• Hearing ability for verbal communication/conversation/responses via telephone, telephone systems, and face-to-face interactions.
• Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing and reaching, flexibility, body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling and prolonged sitting.
• Lifting and moving objects and equipment up to 50 lbs.

Work Environment:

• Work is outdoors under variable weather conditions that can, at times, be extreme (high temperature and humidity levels, as well as freezing & icy water). This position is not sedentary and is subject to schedule changes and/or variable work hours.
• This role is an on campus, in-person position.
• May be exposed to hazardous materials and noxious fumes on occasion, chemical fertilizers.
• The noise level in this work environment is usually moderate, but can be noisy at times due to powered equipment.
