The English Department of Texas Christian University invites applicants for one full-time position as Instructor of Writing, a non-tenure-track, renewable position beginning in August 2023.
Applicants should demonstrate extensive scholarly knowledge of and experience in the teaching of composition/writing. Additionally, applicants should demonstrate expertise and teaching interest in one or more of the following areas: protest rhetoric, rhetoric of social movements, writing studies, digital humanities, African American rhetoric, Black language and literacy, race and rhetoric, or global non-Western literatures. We particularly welcome intersectional approaches to these subject areas.
The position requires teaching: 1) 6 sections of introductory level and intermediate writing per year; 2) 2 sections of courses in the instructor’s specialization. The teaching load is 4-4. The successful candidate for this position will see themselves primarily as a teacher at the undergraduate level, serving TCU’s core requirements as well as students in our English and Writing majors and minors. In addition to teaching duties, successful candidates will participate in service duties, including advising undergraduates and serving on departmental, college, and university committees and will participate in professional development activities to grow pedagogical skills and continued familiarity with their specialization.

Named for TCU’s founders, Addison and Randolph Clark, the AddRan College of Liberal Arts is home to the core academic disciplines of the humanities and social sciences. The College includes approximately 155 full-time faculty members, 13 departments (Comparative Race & Ethnic Studies, Criminology and Criminal Justice, Economics, English, Geography, History, Modern Language Studies, Philosophy, Political Science, Religion, Sociology & Anthropology, Spanish and Hispanic Studies, and Women & Gender Studies), and two units of Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (Army and Air Force). AddRan College departments confer 17 Bachelor of Arts and 7 Bachelor of Science degrees, a Bachelor of General Studies, an online master’s degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice, a Master of Liberal Arts degree, and master’s and Ph.D. degrees in History, English, and Rhetoric and Composition.

The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in Composition and Rhetoric or a closely related field with specialization in Composition and Rhetoric from a regionally accredited institution at the start of employment. Teaching experience in first year writing is required. Commitment to and excellence in undergraduate writing instruction is also required.
