Position Details:

This postdoctoral position is funded for two years and requires residency at TCU.

The History Department at Texas Christian University seeks a historian to serve as its postdoctoral Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) Research Partner Fellow.

With over 80,000 missing personnel unaccounted for from World War II, the Korean War, the Cold War, and the Vietnam War, the DPAA’s mission is to provide the fullest possible accounting to their families and the nation. The DPAA Research Partner Fellow will support the Agency’s mission through conducting research and analysis that may include, but is not limited to, historical research and writing, data organization and management, digital humanities projects, public history work, geospatial technology, and foreign language translation.

The DPAA Research Partner Fellowship requires a time commitment of 40 hours per week on DPAA-related work and outreach activities. The Fellow is expected to maintain a presence on campus and will be provided with an office, computer, and full access to TCU libraries. The Fellow will teach one war and society history-themed course per year for the TCU History Department and may develop an internship project (all of which is included in the 40 hour per week).

Minimum Requirements:

  • A PhD in History or terminal degree in a related discipline
  • Teaching Experience
  • Strong writing and research/analysis skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Demonstrated time management

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Expertise in twentieth-century Military History, modern Pacific or European History, History of Science, or Public History
  • Experience in digital humanities, public history, or geospatial technology
  • Experience in creating/managing large data sets
  • Foreign language skills

The TCU Department of History has 19 full-time faculty members who lead an undergraduate program, including minors in Global History and in Military, War, and Conflict Studies, and a PhD program that specializes in US and Latin American history.

School/College Description:

Named for TCU’s founders, Addison and Randolph Clark, the AddRan College of Liberal Arts is home to the core academic disciplines of the humanities and social sciences. The College includes approximately 155 full-time faculty members, 13 departments (Comparative Race & Ethnic Studies, Criminology & Criminal Justice, Economics, English, Geography, History, Modern Language Studies, Philosophy, Political Science, Religion, Sociology & Anthropology, Spanish and Hispanic Studies, and Women & Gender Studies), and two units of Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (Army and Air Force).
