Job Summary:

The Program Coordinator of Upward Bound (UB)/TRIO Programs is responsible for working with UB students and colleagues to meet grant objectives. Specifically, the program coordinator will plan, coordinate, and execute all project activities and services with the assistance of other project staff. Oversees and implements all academic component tutoring services to participants. Assists with identifying, recruiting, intaking and assessing project participants for academic need. Conducts academic progress checks specifically monitoring core class progress to render academic support.

Duties & Essential Job Functions:

1. Coordinates special events, including college tours, field trips, educational and social workshops.
2. Engages in program recruitment activities.
3. Tracks program graduates as they progress through post-secondary education.
4. Assists in developing program and event publications.
5. Assists with scheduling program tutors.
6. Maintains a caseload of Participants and provides them with documented services and activities.
7. Assesses student needs, plans interventions, sets goals, provides academic and personal coaching, and conducts thorough follow-up procedures.
8. Consults and collaborates with High School counselors, teachers, and administrators to appropriately track student progress and increase the efficiency of UB programming and services.
9. Organizes workshops for UB participants on college access, academic success, financial literacy, and other related topics.
10. Participates in professional development related to college access for under-represented students.
11. Utilizes learning styles, learning assistance strategies, and coaching approaches to ensure student success.
12. Regularly updates student information in the program’s database system.
13. Advises and assists UB Participants with secondary school course selection, undergraduate school admissions, and financial aid process.
14. Ensures accurate and timely submission of all required documents, including but not limited to reports, invoice payment, contracting, etc.
15. Supports office communication/correspondence, places orders, supply inventory, and marketing efforts.
16. Addresses any situations of conflict or crisis by recommending on-site resources or making appropriate referrals.
17. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Counseling, or related field from an accredited college or university.
• 2 years of relevant professional experience working in a federal TRIO program or similar related program for underrepresented, marginalized or disadvantaged students.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Ability to administer and manage educational opportunity related programs.
• Knowledge of educational advising strategies, learning styles, and developing non-cognitive behaviors for success with UB Eligible Students.
• Knowledge to teach study skills and time management techniques.
• Knowledge of high school curriculum, benchmark exams and college admission requirements.
• Knowledge to establish and maintain databases.
• Skill in the use of Microsoft Office to include Word, Excel and Outlook.
• Skill in the use of data records systems.
• Skill in effective written and verbal communications.
• Ability to interact with students.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
• Ability to provide leadership and establish effective working relationships.
• Knowledge of barriers to secondary and postsecondary education faced by low income and first-generation students.
• Professional or personal experiences in overcoming barriers similar to those confronting Participants.

Physical Requirements (With or Without Accommodations):

• Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms and other printed materials and information.
• Able to speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation and general communication.
• Hearing ability for verbal communication/conversation/responses via telephone, telephone systems, and face-to-face interactions.
• Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing and reaching, flexibility, body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling and prolonged sitting.
• Lifting and moving objects and equipment up to 10 lbs.

Work Environment:

• Work is indoors and sedentary and is subject to schedule changes and/or variable work hours.
• This role is an on-campus, in-person position.
• There are no harmful environmental conditions present for this job.
• The noise level in this work environment is usually moderate.
