Job Summary:

The Upward Bound Program Assistant is responsible for providing support during the TCU Upward Bound Summer Program in the following capacity. (1) provide classroom support (2) assist UB Staff with organizational and clerical work; (3) lead/chaperone small student groups during college visits and cultural enrichment trips; (4) assists with UB special events.

*UB Program Assistant must be available to work Monday - Friday for the entire Six-Week Summer Program, starting June 02 – July 11, 2025. *

 

Duties & Essential Job Functions:

1. Provides individual and group tutorial services to participants (grades 9-12) within the Upward Bound Summer Program or provide individual and group tutorial services to participants within the Upward Bound Bridge Program that are transitioning from high school to college.
2. Assists student participants in improving course grades and curriculum content.
3. Works with Upward Bound participants to improve overall academic achievement.
4. Assists in the day-to-day program operations, including recordkeeping/office support.
5. Leads and chaperones small student groups during college visits and cultural enrichment trips.
6. Assists with UB special event support.
7. Provides feedback to Upward Bound Director regarding each participant's unique and individual needs and attends staff development/in-service training.
8. Supports Upward Bound participants outside of the classroom by attending Upward Bound special programs.
9. Provides regular and timely submission of student attendance, grades, and reports.
10. Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

Required Education & Experience:

• Completed 1 year of college
• 1 year of experience working with students in any capacity

 

Preferred Education & Experience:

• Experience working with youth programs.
• Knowledge of/experience with TRIO Programs

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Ability to conduct and facilitate small group sessions
• Ability to communicate effectively.
• Knowledge of developmental issues of minor-aged students
• Ability and understanding to work cooperatively with a wide variety of students and staff.
• Knowledge of developmental issues of minor-aged students
• Ability to maintain student confidentiality.
• Ability to maintain professional and ethical conduct at all levels of interaction with program participants.
• Knowledge of barriers to secondary and postsecondary education faced by low income and first-generation students.

Physical Requirements (With or Without Accommodations):

• Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms and other printed materials and information.
• Able to speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation and general communication.
• Hearing ability for verbal communication/conversation/responses via telephone, telephone systems, and face-to-face interactions.
• Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing and reaching, flexibility, body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling and prolonged sitting.
• Lifting and moving objects and equipment up to 10 lbs.

 

Work Environment:

• Work is indoors and sedentary and is subject to schedule changes and/or variable work hours.
• This role is an on campus, in-person position.
• There are no harmful environmental conditions present for this job.
• The noise level in this work environment is usually moderate.
