The Assistant Chaplain is responsible for contributing to the religious and spiritual life of the campus by overseeing key departmental programs, leading the Disciples of Christ campus ministry (Disciples On Campus), advising/mentoring student leaders for Disciples On Campus, providing pastoral care and counseling to the university community at large, & administrative support & onboarding to prospective students from the Disciples of Christ denomination; also coordinates university worship services & prayer services and supports all-campus worship services for the department.
1. Contributes to religious life & community on campus by providing program support, advising, and mentoring for the Disciples of Christ campus ministry (Disciples On Campus); helps oversee faith-based leadership development, training and resources for student leaders, advisors and staff;
2. Collaborates with other University departments for programs to support current and prospective Disciples of Christ students such as CYF Day and events for prospective Disciples students, families and alumni; supervises the DOC Intern in their work with the university’s Disciples campus ministry program, and plans opportunities to strengthen Disciples sense of community for faculty, staff, and students.
3. Provides pastoral and spiritual care to the university community by offering pastoral care in times of grief, crisis and life transition, serving as a member of the department’s crisis response group, offering spiritual care and direction to all members of the university community, especially to undergraduate students; providing spiritual care, faith development and pastoral support to groups including small groups, organizations, and departments; officiating at weddings, vigils, and memorials; serving in ceremonial and pastoral roles throughout the university as needed.
4. Contributes to departmental, division and university mission, initiatives and responsibilities by assisting with institutional and community responsibilities, providing leadership for departmental programs and support for departmental organizations as needed; participating actively in departmental planning , programs, events, staff development, and meetings; serving the division and the university community through involvement in orientations, camps, committees, workshops and other programs as appropriate and/or assigned; participating in departmental and divisional staff meetings, committees and initiatives; collaborating with departmental partners and programs.
5. Oversees the planning and implementation of university-wide ecumenical worship services, prayer services, and all-campus worship experiences throughout the academic year.

• Master's degree in Divinity or related degree.
• Experience in ministry in a higher education or young adult environment.
• Basic Unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE)
• Ordained in the Disciples of Christ denomination or the United Church of Christ denomination, and in good standing within an accredited divinity school or seminary.

• Knowledge of college chaplaincy/campus ministry approaches as well as college student development with special attention to its moral and spiritual aspects.
• Knowledge of commitment to diversity and an understanding of/appreciation of cultural, ethnic, religious and individual differences.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office/Mac OS applications.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Windows and/or Mac OS navigation.
• Knowledge of strong pastoral techniques including the ability to provide support, mentoring, pastoral and spiritual care to young adults.
• Knowledge of administrative and organization techniques.
• Knowledge of program development, facilitation, and training techniques.
• Ability to assist in the faith and theological formation of individuals and groups.
• Ability to establish strong rapport with students of all faith and spiritual perspectives.

• This role is an on-campus, in-person position. This position focuses on the spiritual needs of the TCU campus community. Therefore, it requires a full-time physical presence on campus and is not a remote work position.
