The Department of Computer Science at Texas Christian University invites applications for an Assistant or Associate Professor of Professional Practice faculty position. The successful candidate will join a department committed to excellence in undergraduate and graduate education and to preparing students for careers in computing and related fields.

Candidates must possess a master's degree in computer science or a closely related field. A Ph.D. in computer science is preferred. Candidates should have relevant professional, industry, or academic experience in computing or a closely related field and demonstrate an interest in bringing practical and contemporary perspectives into the classroom.

The Department is particularly interested in candidates with expertise in computer systems, cybersecurity, or software engineering. However, outstanding candidates from any sub-discipline of computer science are encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate should have broad interests in computing and be prepared to teach undergraduate courses at multiple levels. Depending upon the candidate's expertise and departmental needs, teaching responsibilities may include courses in programming and software development, computer systems, operating systems, computer networks, cybersecurity, software engineering, and other areas of computer science.

The position is primarily teaching-focused and includes service to the Department, College, and University. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to curriculum development, student advising and mentoring, undergraduate projects, and other departmental activities. Opportunities may also exist to participate in graduate education and activities associated with the Department's Ph.D. program in Computer Science.

Candidates who can contribute to the Department's applied computing curriculum and who have experience with current technologies, development environments, and professional practices are particularly encouraged to apply.

Appointment at the Assistant or Associate Professor of Professional Practice level will be determined based on the successful candidate's qualifications and professional and teaching experience.

Department Details:

The Department of Computer Science at Texas Christian University is housed within the Louise Dilworth Davis College of Science & Engineering and has approximately 220 students and nine full-time faculty members. The Department supports academic programs in Computer Science, Computer Information Technology, and Data Science, and offers a Ph.D. program in Computer Science.

The Department is committed to providing students with a strong foundation in the principles of computing while also offering opportunities to gain practical experience with contemporary computing technologies. Its curriculum encompasses areas including programming, algorithms and data structures, computer systems, operating systems, computer networks, cybersecurity, databases, software engineering, artificial intelligence, data science, cloud computing, and parallel and high-performance computing.

Faculty members are committed to excellence in teaching and work closely with students through coursework, advising, independent study, research, and project-based learning. The Department values close faculty-student interaction and provides opportunities for students to apply their knowledge through research, internships, senior design, and other project experiences.

The Louise Dilworth Davis College of Science & Engineering encompasses 9 departments (Biology, Chemistry & Biochemistry, Computer Science, Engineering, Environmental and Geological Sciences, Mathematics, Nutritional Sciences, Physics & Astronomy, and Psychology) as well as the Ranch Management Program, which offers both an undergraduate degree and a one-year certificate program. Davis College is also home to the Pre-Health Professions Institute, the Karyn Purvis Institute for Child Development, the Institute of Behavioral Research, the Institute for Environmental Studies, Monnig Meteorite Gallery, and the Institute for Ranch Management. Davis College is the second largest at TCU in terms of both undergraduate enrollment and number of majors. It contains a disproportionate percentage of high-achieving students, as evidenced by the fact that almost one-half of the students in the Honors College have majors in The Louise Dilworth Davis College of Science & Engineering. Research opportunities abound for undergraduates, with 46 percent of majors engaging in a substantive experience during which they work one-on-one with their faculty mentor. Davis College also has five doctoral programs and 16 master’s programs, as well as two graduate certificate programs. Davis College faculty are true teacher-scholars, for whom instruction and research are viewed as complementary activities.
