Position Details:

This full-time faculty position is on-campus and in-person.

TCU Department of Theatre, located in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex, invites applications from qualified candidates for a full-time tenure track Assistant Professor in Stage and Production Management. The TCU undergraduate theatre program offers BFA pre-professional training degrees, and a BA liberal arts degree, and seeks a collaborative colleague with professional experience to join our department. Position begins August, 2025, with regular teaching of the Stage Management and Sound Design course, co-teaching our Design Tech Studio class, as well as collaborating with the faculty in the creation of a BFA with an emphasis in Stage Management.

As TCU follows the teacher-scholar model, the successful candidate appointed to this position should be able to demonstrate an impact in scholarship/creative activity, teaching, and mentoring. They would be expected to bring significant recognition to the College of Fine Arts such that their work elevates the profile and reputation of the College and the Department of Theatre.

Required Qualifications:
• MFA, Ph.D., or other terminal degree in the field.
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in stage and/or production management.
• Demonstration of the ability to prioritize and schedule multi-step theatrical processes through completion.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Professional experience as a theatre artist/manager.
• Professional experience as a sound designer and/or in music composition.
• Proven experience in handling production and design processes on large–scale productions.
• Intermediate to advanced skills with necessary theatre industry related software, such as Vectorworks and Stage Write, as well as all Microsoft Suite productivity software.
• Working knowledge of USA, SDC, IATSE, AEA (SPT/LORT) collective bargaining agreements.
• Knowledge of and adherence to ADA and OSHA compliance.
• Oversight and communication of production budget.
• Professional theatrical connections working within a regional or national market.
• Working knowledge of industry “best practices”.
• University teaching experience.
• Ability to effectively mentor undergraduate students.
• Demonstrated collegiality and ability/willingness to collaborate effectively with colleagues.
• Demonstration of strong written, communication, and organizational skills.
• Competency in supervision.
• Ability to multi-task, meet deadlines, work independently, and to troubleshoot problems in a prompt and efficient manner.

Required Duties and Essential Job Functions:
• Teaching each semester.
• Coordinate with the department chair and technical director to create and manage the production calendar.
• Oversee and coordinate theatrical spaces with assistance from the technical director and scenic studio supervisor.
• Serve as liaison with professional companies when producing a co-production with Theatre TCU.
• Serve as the primary stage manager for one Theatre TCU production each year.
• Mentor and supervise Theatre TCU student stage managers for department productions, working closely with those students through weekly individual meetings, observing rehearsals, and provide mentorship during the rehearsal and tech/dress process.
• Conduct post-production assessments with the student stage managers.
• Attend required production meetings and faculty/staff meetings.
• Develop, implement, and monitor policies to insure safe and inclusive production practices.
• Assist the Chair and Department in achieving mission-driven goals in production and programming, including the development of a BFA with an emphasis in Stage Management.
• Communicate collegially with our faculty, professional staff, and students.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Department Chair.

Physical Requirements (With or Without Accommodations):
• Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms, and other printed materials and information.
• Able to speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation and general communication.
• Hearing ability for verbal communication/conversation/responses via telephone, telephone systems, and face-to-face interactions.
• Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing and reaching, flexibility, body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling and prolonged sitting.
• Lifting and moving objects and equipment up to 50 lbs.

Required Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training:
• Valid Driver’s License.
• Must be insurable under the university motor vehicle requirements.
• Satisfactory results from a post-offer physical examination.

Work Environment:
• Work is mostly indoors, not sedentary, and is subject to schedule changes and/or variable work hours.
• Must be able to support productions, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• This role is an on-campus, in-person position.
• The noise level in this work environment is usually moderate.

The Department of Theatre offers four BFA degrees dedicated to conservatory-style training inside a liberal arts education, as well as a BA degree in Theatre. Theatre TCU produces 6-8 productions each academic year, welcomes numerous guest artists, collaborates regularly with professional theatres in the area, and offers unique opportunities that support student professional and educational development. Theatre TCU alumni are performers, choreographers, artistic directors, arts administrators, educators, program developers, studio owners, designers, and more.
