Job Summary:

The Associate Dean of Students is responsible for administering Dean of Students objectives by supporting the coordination of services, resources and programs aimed at assisting individual students to become successful; serves as a University Discipline Officer and manages the University’s discipline process; assessing individual and community needs; collaborating with key officials on and off campus to foster a healthy community for student success; stays current on information related to university student conduct, care, advocacy and support.

Duties & Essential Job Functions:

1. Under the direction of the Dean, this position works under broad, administrative direction with significant responsibility in planning, organizing, and managing services associated with the Dean of Students Office.
2. Implements, modifies, and enforces the Student Code of Conduct by serving as a University Discipline Officer through investigation and adjudication of alleged conduct violations.
3. Develops, facilitates, and evaluates educational/training programs for various constituents; developing, implementing, managing and evaluating programs; advising, motivating, encouraging and empowering students.
4. Reviews, develops and updates policies and procedures.
5. Serves on division and university-wide committees as appointed.
6. Supervises all aspects of student employees in the Dean of Students office including hiring, training, scheduling and terminating all positions.
7. Supervises any part-time/temporary staff hired within the Dean of Students Office.
8. Responsible for updates to the student handbook.
9. Oversees the Dean on Call training and logistics.
10. Responsible for reconciling all Clery Act- related data for the Dean of Students Office.
11. Researches and tracks national, state and campus trends and reports on those trends; monitors and assesses residence life conduct trends; assures compliance with relevant laws including the Clery Act, Drug Free Schools and Communities Act, FERPA and other relevant local, state, and federal laws.
12. Provides education, training, outreach and consultation to campus partners including Housing and Residence Life, Athletics, Academic Affairs, hearing board participants, students, families, and other partners.
13. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:

• Masters' degree in student personnel, counseling, higher education administration, or related field is required.
• Five to seven years progressively responsible professional experience in higher education or related field is required.
• Experience supervising and providing leadership to staff.

Preferred Education & Experience:

• Experience developing and managing a budget.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Knowledge of working in a team environment.
• Knowledge of student development theory and practice.
• Knowledge of current university conduct practices.
• Knowledge of a strong communication, mediation and interpersonal skills to support a wide variety of interactions with students and the university community members.
• Skill in leadership, program planning and assessment skills.
• Skill using Maxient or other student conduct software and overseeing programs and/or support services in higher education setting.
• Ability to exhibit strong administrative and communication skills, sound judgment and decision-making skills.
• Ability to develop and maintain productive collaborative relations.

Physical Requirements (With or Without Accommodations):

• Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms and other printed materials and information.
• Able to speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation and general communication.
• Hearing ability for verbal communication/conversation/responses via telephone, telephone systems, and face-to-face interactions.
• Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing and reaching, flexibility, body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling and prolonged sitting.
• Lifting and moving objects and equipment up to 10 lbs.

Work Environment:

• Work is indoors and sedentary and is subject to schedule changes and/or variable work hours.
• This role is an on campus, in-person position.
• There are no harmful environmental conditions present for this job.
• The noise level in this work environment is usually moderate.
