Job Summary:

The Athletic Training Intern is responsible for supporting the Associate Director of Sports Medicine by providing health care services to the student athletes.

Duties & Essential Job Functions:

1. Assists the Athletic Training department by Completing pre-participation physical exams and baseline testing, providing first aid and emergency care as needed, completing clinical evaluations and treatment care plans as assigned, and providing practice, event, and athletic training room coverage as needed.
2. Assists with various administrative tasks for the department including, but not limited to, medical record keeping, supply inventory maintenance, and use of TCU’s electronic medical record system
3. Provides autonomous care to assigned team(s) outside of primary assignment
4. Serves as a preceptor for TCU’s Master’s in Athletic Training program
5. Assists with hosting on-campus athletic events and travels as needed to provide team coverage
6. Works professionally within the healthcare team, including team physicians, orthopedic surgeons, physical therapists, massage therapists, chiropractors, dietitians, and human performance staff.
7. Observes surgeries with orthopedic surgeons.
8. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:

• Master’s degree from a CAATE accredited Athletic Training Program

Preferred Education & Experience:

• Two years working with collegiate athletes as a Master’s student in Athletic Training

Required Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training:

• BOC Certification
• CPR/AED/First Aid Certified
• Licensed or eligible for licensure in the state of Texas
• Must be insurable under the University Motor Vehicle Requirements

Preferred Licensure, Certification, and/or Specialized Training:

• None

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Knowledge in the care, prevention and rehabilitation of athletic injuries
• Knowledge of basic office techniques and computer skills
• Skill in effective written and verbal communications.
• Ability to be flexible and work with a broad range of athletes.
• Knowledge of basic customer service techniques. Solutions-oriented mindset.

Physical Requirements (With or Without Accommodations):

• Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms and other printed materials and information.
• Able to speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation and general communication.
• Hearing ability for verbal communication/conversation/responses via telephone, telephone systems, and face-to-face interactions.
• Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing and reaching, flexibility, body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling and prolonged sitting.
• Lifting and moving objects and equipment up to 50 lbs.

Work Environment:

• Work is indoors and outdoors and is subject to schedule changes and variable work hours.
• There are no harmful environmental conditions present for this job.
• The noise level in this work environment is usually moderate.
• This position is in person and on campus.
