Job Summary:

The Costume Technician will support the Dance Costume Shop in constructing new costumes and altering rented, borrowed or stock costumes for dance productions.

Duties & Essential Job Functions:

1. Works closely with Dance Costume Shop Supervisor to construct costumes, make alterations, and/or repair of costumes, and create millinery pieces.
2. Keeps track of supplies and convey any needs to Costume Shop Supervisor.
3. Assists in duties for daily set-up and clean-up of the Costume Shop.
4. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:

• Proficient in use of domestic and industrial sewing machines, sergers, blind hemmers, and industrial irons.
• Proficient in garment construction.

Preferred Education & Experience:

• 2 years’ experience as a cutter, stitcher, and tailor for theatrical costumes.

• Ability to speak publicly in small groups, leading small groups.
• Ability to use strong organizational skills.

Physical Requirements (With or Without Accommodations):

• Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms and other printed materials and information.
• Able to speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation and general communication.
• Hearing ability for verbal communication/conversation/responses via telephone, telephone systems, and face-to-face interactions.
• Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing and reaching, flexibility, body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling and prolonged sitting.
• Lifting and moving objects and equipment up to 10 lbs.

Work Environment:

• Work is indoors and sedentary and is subject to schedule changes and/or variable work hours.
• This role is an on campus, in-person position.
• There are no harmful environmental conditions present for this job.
• The noise level in this work environment is usually moderate.
