Position Details:

Texas Christian University invites highly qualified candidates to apply for the Herman Brown Endowed Chair of Political Science. The ideal candidate will have an exceptional record of nationally and internationally recognized research and a demonstrable aptitude for, and commitment to, effective undergraduate teaching. We welcome applicants at the rank of Professor or senior Associate Professor, and from all subfields of Political Science. Nominations are welcome. We seek an individual who will contribute intellectual and programmatic leadership in a large and thriving undergraduate department.

The Herman Brown Chair of Political Science in the AddRan College of Liberal Arts was created in 1968 through an endowment grant by The Brown Foundation, Inc. of Houston to recognize distinguished achievement in the field of political science. The chair includes a competitive salary, a generous annual stipend for professional expenses and programming, and a teaching load of two courses per year.

Department Details:

The TCU political science department has 17 full-time faculty members and nearly 400 majors in two undergraduate degrees. TCU political science faculty run co-curricular programs such as pre-law advising, Moot Court, Model U.N., and Washington and local internships, as well as teach in and administer interdisciplinary programs including Women and Gender Studies, Comparative Race and Ethnic Studies, Asian Studies, and Middle East Studies. The department is also editorial home to the journal Social Science Quarterly.

School/College Description:

Named for TCU’s founders, Addison and Randolph Clark, the AddRan College of Liberal Arts is home to the core academic disciplines of the humanities and social sciences. The College includes approximately 155 full-time faculty members, 13 departments (Comparative Race & Ethnic Studies, Criminology & Criminal Justice, Economics, English, Geography, History, Modern Language Studies, Philosophy, Political Science, Religion, Sociology & Anthropology, Spanish and Hispanic Studies, and Women & Gender Studies), and two units of Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (Army and Air Force). AddRan College departments confer 17 Bachelor of Arts and 7 Bachelor of Science degrees, a Bachelor of General Studies, an online master’s degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice, a Master of Liberal Arts degree, and master’s and Ph.D. degrees in History, English, and Rhetoric and Composition.
