Job Summary:

The Marketing & Communication Specialist advances and strengthens the reputation and visibility of TCU and the assigned business unit with preferred internal and external audiences by identifying, publicizing and marketing reputation-defining people, events and activities that support the TCU and assigned business unit brand.

Duties & Essential Job Functions:

1. Act as the primary liaison with assigned business unit and the TCU Marketing and Communication unit, ensuring collaboration and alignment of shared priorities.
2. Creates and implements strategic marketing and communication plans to advance the assigned business unit brand in alignment with university priorities and initiatives; applies metrics to assure ongoing success.
3. Develops and executes strategic marketing and communication plans to advance the assigned business unit brand in line with university priorities, using metrics to ensure success.
4. Acts as the primary storyteller for assigned business unit generating and distributing content to elevate both the college and TCU via website, social media and media relations. Develops story ideas, writes content and conducts interviews with faculty and staff.
5. Oversees college digital communications, managing official assigned business unit social media channels and websites and coordinates social media posts with TCU-owned accounts for greater visibility and impact.
6. Serves as media relations for assigned business unit events and media relations support to TCU Marketing and Communications for major events, including crises and significant institutional occasions, as appropriate.
7. Collaborates with TCU Marketing and Communications to secure local media coverage and coordinate events with University Events as needed. Manages assigned business unit faculty ExpertFile profiles, pitches experts to media and ensures policy alignment by escorting media while on campus, including assigned business unit commencements. Acts as the assigned business unit designated media contact, as approved by TCU Marketing and Communications.
8. Creates marketing publications like brochures and reports for assigned business unit and sources digital content (new or repurposed content, images and videos) for both assigned business unit and institutional use.
9. Coordinates assigned business unit marketing and communication projects using TCU Marketing and Communication’s main project management system to ensure timely completion and address project needs.
10. Attends all Marketing and Communication related meetings and any other meetings needed to advance assigned business unit.
11. Collaborates with other marketing and communication specialists and TCU Marketing and Communication’s staff, to assist in editing materials, creating assigned content, and supporting team members as assigned.
12. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in marketing, public relations, strategic communications, advertising, journalism or related
• 3 plus years in advertising, marketing, public or media relations, journalism or related environment developing both digital and print content

Preferred Education & Experience:

• Experience in higher education communications and website management.

Required Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training:

• None

Preferred Licensure, Certification, and/or Specialized Training:

• Experience using Adobe Creative Suite
• Experience using web content management systems

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Knowledge of and ability to use strong oral and written communication skills.
• Knowledge of working in an academic setting.
• Knowledge of digital technologies and best practices and utilization of social media/website for dissemination of information.
• Knowledge of interpersonal communication techniques.
• Knowledge of customer service techniques.
• Knowledge of graphic design and website content strategy.
• Skill in editing and use of AP Style
• Skill using Adobe Creative Suite and WordPress or other web content management systems.
• Skill in managing social media platforms for paid owned and earned content.
• Ability to manage details of a project.
• Ability to integrate digital communications and marketing.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
• Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.

Physical Requirements (With or Without Accommodations):

• Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms and other printed materials and information.
• Able to speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation and general communication.
• Hearing ability for verbal communication/conversation/responses via telephone, telephone systems, and face-to-face interactions.
• Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing and reaching, flexibility, body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling and prolonged sitting.
• Lifting and moving objects and equipment up to 10 lbs.

Work Environment:

• Work is indoors and sedentary and is subject to schedule changes and/or variable work hours.
• Work requires travel across campus and frequent interaction.
• There are no harmful environmental conditions present for this job.
• The noise level in this work environment is usually moderate.
• This role is an on campus, in-person position.
