The Radio Engineer and AV Equipment Manager is responsible for (a) overseeing all technical operations of audio equipment for KTCU-FM88.7 in accordance with broadcast standards, government regulations, and evolving pedagogical needs and (b) managing the student circulation and maintenance of production equipment for the Film, TV and Digital Media Department.
1. Acts as the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) legally designated “Chief Operator” for the radio station, and manage technical compliance with all regulatory and governmental agencies including the FCC and Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) for tower ordinance.
2. Serves as the lead emergency contact for the continual broadcast (24/7/365) of KTCU.
3. Coordinates the analysis, repair, and replacement needs for all departmental audio, video and classroom production infrastructure.
4. Oversees all technical operations of the radio station by monitoring signal integrity and sound quality while managing network upgrades. Maintains production and automation system efficiency through proactive, remote computer support for the stations various systems.
5. Investigates and recommends purchases of new technologies and equipment by researching technological advances in accordance with radio and FTDM departmental needs.
6. Manages inventory accuracy, equipment maintenance, and the student checkout procedure for film production assets as well as maintaining classroom video hardware.
7. Furnishes requested technical data to station management, departmental faculty, staff, and students as needed to support daily operations.
8. Regularly communicates with radio station personnel, departmental faculty, staff members, vendors and others to evaluate needs and align with departmental goals.
9. Provides secondary engineer support for sports-broadcasting-related video and audio engineering matters on an as-needed basis.
10. Performs other related duties as assigned.
• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Minimum of 3 years working as an audio and/or video engineer, preferably with experience in both.
• Versed in FM transmission systems and current FCC rules and regulations.
• Military or Post-Secondary electronics training preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree in Audio Engineering or a related field.

• SBE, CBT, and/or CBNT Certification
• Knowledge of FM station operating standards, protocols, and studio audio technology.
• Knowledge of and experience with managing RF systems, audio routing/wiring, dynamic signal processing, and electronic measurement equipment.
• Knowledge of and experience with computer-based audio and video technologies (e.g., codecs, IP streaming, station automation, or similar systems-based audio and video technologies).
• Knowledge of and experience with Wheatstone AoIP systems and IP-based audio codecs is a plus.
• Skill in maintaining and repairing state-of-the-art AV and broadcast hardware.
• Skill in learning and implementing new tools and technologies in an active broadcast environment.
• Skill in applicable software packages (Microsoft OS and Office Suite, Automation Systems, Adobe Creative Cloud).
• Ability to read and interpret system drawings, map signal flows, and analyze schematics.
• Ability to manage departmental assets with attention to budget and project timelines.
• Ability to manage priorities independently while using sound judgement on when to appropriately escalate issues to leadership.
