Job Summary:

The Senior Accountant is responsible for supporting accounting and financial reporting functions of the University by reviewing Treasury and investment accounting transactions and financial reporting; facilitating successful completion of external audit and preparation of annual financial statements; reviewing reconciliations and journal entries; and preparing accounting and audit analyses and reports.

Duties & Essential Job Functions:

1. Approves journal entries and wire transfers initiated by the Assistant Treasurer.
2. Reviews monthly endowment reconciliation.
3. Supports cash management functions.
4. Reconciles mineral and rental income.
5. Reviews journal entries initiated by Financial Services management.
6. Supports external audit activities, with primary responsibility for the mineral valuation audit and review of endowment/investment audit schedules.
7. Assists in preparation of annual financial statements.
8. Reviews reconciliations and journal entries prepared by other accounting staff.
9. Supports external audit activities and financial statement and annual report preparation.
10. Supports monthly financial closing process, including monthly financial analysis.
11. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting
• 3 plus years accounting/auditing experience

Preferred Education & Experience:

• PeopleSoft system experience.
• Public accounting audit experience.

Required Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training:

• None

Preferred Licensure, Certification, and/or Specialized Training:

• CPA license

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Skill in both written and oral communication.
• Skill in the use of Microsoft Office to include Word, Excel and Outlook.
• Ability to independently extract, research, and analyze financial data and develop recommendations.
• Ability to effectively manage multiple broad projects.
• Ability to review detailed financial transactions for accuracy and appropriateness.

• Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms and other printed materials and information.
• Able to speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation and general communication.

• Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing and reaching, flexibility, body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling and prolonged sitting.
• Lifting and moving objects and equipment up to 10 lbs.

Work Environment:

• Work is indoors and sedentary and is subject to schedule changes and/or variable work hours.
• There are no harmful environmental conditions present for this job.
• The noise level in this work environment is usually moderate.
• This role is an on-campus, in-person position.
