This full-time faculty position is on-campus and in-person.
We are seeking an Assistant Professor of Professional Practice with a strong professional counseling identity and extensive clinical experience. The successful candidate will teach and advise students in both our CACREP-accredited Clinical Mental Health Counseling master's program and our Counseling & Counselor Education doctoral program (currently seeking CACREP accreditation).
Specific duties include:
• Teach graduate counseling courses such as orientation, counseling diverse populations, counseling interventions, and internship.
• Advise and mentor graduate students, including serving on oral/comprehensive examination and dissertation committees.
• Develop and revise courses to reflect current field practices and standards.
• Assess student learning outcomes and support CACREP accreditation efforts through contributions to continuous program improvement, compliance reports, and site visits).
• Implement innovative teaching practices, such as technology integration, simulations, or case-based learning.
• Supervise students and facilitate practicum/internship placements in accordance with licensure and CACREP standards.
• Guide students through licensure preparation, including state and national exam requirements.
• Contribute to program marketing and recruitment through open houses, information sessions, and community events.
• Provide service to the college, university, and counseling-related professional organizations.
The Department of Counseling, Societal Change & Inquiry (CSCI) is located in TCU’s College of Education and houses the Counseling, Curriculum Studies, and Youth Advocacy and Educational Studies programs. These programs engage students who aim to positively impact society in various ways, including addressing mental health through counseling, examining the relationships between school curricula and society, and working with youth in educational organizations. Coursework in CSCI provides students with a foundation in educational studies that can be applied to contexts outside the classroom, while also having a lasting impact on schools and their surrounding communities.
TCU’s College of Education provides exceptional preparation for the most inspired and inspiring educators, counselors, leaders, and youth advocates. The college offers both B.S. and B.S.E. degrees at the undergraduate level, as well as five master's programs and five doctoral programs, many of which are nationally recognized. Required Qualifications:
• Doctorate (Ph.D.) in Counselor Education and Supervision from a CACREP-accredited program. ABD candidates will be considered, but must complete degree requirements by the appointment date.
• Licensed to practice counseling and eligible for Texas LPC credential.
• Demonstrated excellence or potential for excellence in teaching across the CACREP curriculum.
• Evidence of professional engagement in the counseling field
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience as instructor-of-record for graduate counseling courses.
• Eligibility for Texas LPC credential within two years.
• Knowledge and experience with strength-based counseling approaches.
• Two or more years of clinical experience in schools, communities, hospitals, and/or non-profit settings.
• Experience advising and mentoring master's and doctoral-level counseling students.
• Supervision credentials (e.g., LPC-S in Texas, NBCC Approved Clinical Supervisor).
• Ability to coordinate program components (e.g., practicum/internship, CACREP).
• Ability to teach doctoral-level courses.
• Ability to connect students with professional communities (i.e., counseling-related boards and associations).
