The Department of History at Texas Christian University seeks to fill the Erma and Ralph Lowe Chair in Texas History at the rank of advanced Associate or Full Professor. Established in 2002, the Lowe Chair is expected to continue the enthusiasm for the study of Texas in its multiple manifestations.
Embodying the TCU tradition of the teacher-scholar, the Lowe Chair will teach both undergraduate and graduate courses related to Texas and United States history, advise master’s and PhD students, play an active role in the Center for Texas Studies, and serve TCU and the professional community.
The successful candidate will have a distinguished record of publication in the field of Texas history and will be expected to maintain their scholarly productivity to enhance the academic profile of the department, the Center for Texas Studies, the AddRan College of Liberal Arts, and the University.
The successful applicant will present
--a record of excellent teaching, including demonstrated ability to advise and direct graduate students
--high-quality publications in Texas history, and
--a record of effective involvement in historical organizations.

Department Details:

The TCU Department of History has 19 full-time faculty members who lead an undergraduate program that offers a major plus minors in Global History and Military, War, and Conflict Studies, and who teach in a PhD program that specializes in US and Latin American History.

School/College Description:

Named for TCU’s founders, Addison and Randolph Clark, the AddRan College of Liberal Arts is home to the core academic disciplines of the humanities and social sciences. The College includes approximately 155 full-time faculty members, 13 departments (Comparative Race & Ethnic Studies, Criminology & Criminal Justice, Economics, English, Geography, History, Modern Language Studies, Philosophy, Political Science, Religion, Sociology & Anthropology, Spanish and Hispanic Studies, and Women & Gender Studies), and two units of Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (Army and Air Force). AddRan College departments confer 17 Bachelor of Arts and 7 Bachelor of Science degrees, a Bachelor of General Studies, an online master’s degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice, a Master of Liberal Arts degree, and master’s and Ph.D. degrees in History, English, and Rhetoric and Composition.
