Job Summary:

The Counselor Clinical Associate is responsible for promoting positive mental health in students by providing direct clinical services such as assessments, crisis intervention, individual and group counseling, and consultation with faculty and staff. This position is designed to help the LPC Associate or LMFT Associate obtain required hours for full licensure. Duties to be performed under the direct supervision of TCU Counseling Center LPC-S or LMFT-S licensed clinician. LPC-S and LMFT-S clinicians will only supervise Associate hours obtained through the TCU Counseling Center.

 

Duties & Essential Job Functions:

1. Provides direct clinical services to students in areas related to emotional, social, personal, academic, and relationship concerns through assessment, time-limited individual and couples counseling, and group counseling.
2. Supports the department by participating in clinical documentation, case management, staff meetings, and in-service training.
3. Provides assistance for individuals and groups who require immediate assistance by crisis intervention and consultation with various University personnel to assist in resolution of concerns and situations of conflict.
4. Collaborates with the Director, professional colleagues, and Health Center providers regarding case management and referral of clients with long term or serious psychological and psychiatric diagnosis to appropriate specialists and agencies outside the university setting.
5. Completes documentation of clinical notes in a timely manner and follows all ethical rules and guidelines of relevant state licensure boards.
6. Meets with supervisor weekly to review clinical cases and documentation.
7. Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

Required Education & Experience:

• Earned Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, or Psychology, from a regionally accredited university.
• 1-year clinical experience that can be obtained during Master’s level internship or practicum, to include counseling experience with individuals in adolescence and young adulthood.

Required Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training:

• Licensed as LPC Associate or LMFT Associate in good standing with the State of Texas by start date. The Associate will also be required to provide proof of current Professional Liability Insurance.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Knowledge of excellent clinical and counseling techniques, especially the ability to form therapeutic alliance with college-age clients, good diagnostic and crisis intervention techniques, and demonstrated ability with time-limited therapy.
• Knowledge and experience with group counseling.
• Knowledge of excellent oral and written communication techniques, including clinical documentation.
• Skill with electronic technology, including electronic scheduling, recordkeeping.
• Ability to develop and maintain positive professional relationships, and ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with supervisor, colleagues, and clients in a fast-paced environment.

Physical Requirements (With or Without Accommodations):

• Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms and other printed materials and information.
• Able to speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation and general communication.
• Hearing ability for verbal communication/conversation/responses via telephone, telephone systems, and face-to-face interactions.
• Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing and reaching, flexibility, body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling and prolonged sitting.
• Lifting and moving objects and equipment up to 10 lbs.

 

Work Environment:

• Work is indoors and sedentary and is subject to schedule changes and/or variable work hours.
• This role is an on campus, in-person position.
• There are no harmful environmental conditions present for this job.
• The noise level in this work environment is usually moderate.
