Job Summary:

The Director of Financial Education and Scholarships works under the Executive Director of Scholarships and Student Financial Aid and is responsible for overseeing the administration and processing of financial aid funds and scholarships. This individual plays a key role in creating and delivering a comprehensive, longitudinal financial literacy program.
The Director of Financial Education and Scholarships has direct oversight of financial aid advisors and works closely with them to support institutional goals related to enrollment, retention, and student success. Additionally, this role is responsible for developing and leading the financial aid advisors in delivering a multi-year financial education program that empowers students to make informed financial decisions throughout their academic journey and beyond.
The Director of Financial Education and Scholarships collaborates with the Executive Director of Scholarships and Student Financial Aid to ensure compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations, and works across departments to enhance access, affordability, and overall student financial well-being.

In the absence of the Executive Director of Scholarships and Student Financial Aid, the Director of Financial Education and Scholarships will serve as the senior office administrator.

 

Duties & Essential Job Functions:

1. Works with the Executive Director to manage and optimize undergraduate and graduate financial aid programs by developing, implementing, and continually refining administrative procedures for efficient aid processing. Monitors and adapts to legislative changes, ensuring compliance and alignment with industry standards. Actively engages with the financial aid community at the local, state, regional, and national levels to stay informed on best practices and regulatory updates. Additionally, serves as the senior office administrator in the Executive Director’s absence, ensuring seamless operation of the office.
2. Communicates job expectations; plans, monitors and appraises job results; coaches, counsels and disciplines employees; develops, coordinates and enforces systems, policies, procedures and productivity standards.
3. Develops new processes and plans to increase service to students, improve office efficiencies, and ensure regulatory compliance by implementing technology and best business practices, monitoring and enhancing office communications, staffing, and setting tone as a service organization.
4. Represents the university to a variety of university and professional organizations and committees by attending meetings, presenting financial aid information, actively participating in professional activities.
5. Provides program information to the university community and external agencies by producing periodic and ad hoc reports; maintaining records.
6. Maintains regular communication with campus departments to align financial aid efforts with broader institutional goals. This includes, but is not limited to, serving on the Enrollment Management Committee, a standing committee that works closely with campus partners to ensure consistent and timely dissemination of information related to student scholarships and financial aid.
7. Actively participates in strategic planning initiatives and provide expertise on financial aid policies.
8. Serves as a resource for internal and external stakeholders on financial aid-related matters.
9. Supervises advising staff and/or student employees/interns.
10. Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

Required Education & Experience:

• Bachelor's Degree.
• 7 years' experience in Financial Aid administration or combination of education and experience.

 

Preferred Education & Experience:

• 10 years’ experience in Financial Aid

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Knowledge of Title IV of the Higher Education Act and other forms of financial aid and record keeping requirements.
• Knowledge of university student information systems (e.g., PeopleSoft).
• Knowledge of financial literacy/education programs.
• Skill in ensuring accuracy, attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills.
• Skill in computation and analytical skills to perform research and analysis.
• Ability to communicate and interact with individuals from various levels of the organization.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Ability to work independently and be motivated to assist students to understand the financial aid process and financing options.
• Ability to analyze and understand the interconnectedness of systems, medial school culture and processes.
• Ability to interpret federal, state and institutional policies governing student financial aid programs.
• Ability to counsel students on financial aid and repayment process.

Physical Requirements (With or Without Accommodations):

• Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms and other printed materials and information.
• Able to speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation and general communication.
• Hearing ability for verbal communication/conversation/responses via telephone, telephone systems, and face-to-face interactions.
• Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing and reaching, flexibility, body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling and prolonged sitting.
• Lifting and moving objects and equipment up to 10 lbs.

 

Work Environment:

• Work is indoors and sedentary and is subject to schedule changes and/or variable work hours.
• This is an in-person, on-campus role.
• There are no harmful environmental conditions present for this job.
• The noise level in this work environment is usually moderate.
