Texas Christian University invites applications for a full-time Instructor in the Department of History beginning August 2026. The department seeks candidates who can teach a survey course on ancient and medieval Europe, in addition to upper-level courses on the Greek World, the Roman Republic, and the Roman Empire that contribute to the interdisciplinary minor in Classical Studies. The instructorship is primarily a teaching position, with a 4/4 load and an emphasis on survey courses (which are capped at 30 students), plus expectations of service to the department and to the university.

At TCU, the rank of Instructor is a full-time, non-tenure-track position with a renewable contract and the possibility of promotion to the rank of Instructor II or Senior Instructor, depending on quality of teaching and service. Salary and benefits are highly competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. Candidates must have a Ph.D.in History or a closely related field in hand by the start date, as well as a strong commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching. Experience in undergraduate teaching and evidence of a strong teaching record are preferred but not required.

Department Details:

The TCU Department of History has 19 full-time faculty members who lead an undergraduate program that offers a major plus minors in Global History and Military, War, and Conflict Studies, and who teach in a PhD program that specializes in US and Latin American History.

School/College Description:

Named for TCU’s founders, Addison and Randolph Clark, the AddRan College of Liberal Arts is home to the core academic disciplines of the humanities and social sciences. The College includes approximately 155 full-time faculty members, 13 departments (Comparative Race & Ethnic Studies, Criminology & Criminal Justice, Economics, English, Geography, History, Modern Language Studies, Philosophy, Political Science, Religion, Sociology & Anthropology, Spanish and Hispanic Studies, and Women & Gender Studies), and two units of Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (Army and Air Force). AddRan College departments confer 17 Bachelor of Arts and 7 Bachelor of Science degrees, a Bachelor of General Studies, an online master’s degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice, a Master of Liberal Arts degree, and master’s and Ph.D. degrees in History, English, and Rhetoric and Composition.
