Job Summary:

The Nursing Academic Coach is responsible for assisting pre-licensure nursing students to identify gaps in nursing knowledge based on testing performance; and developing, creating, implementing, and evaluating academic remediation plans. This role will also support faculty and department programs designing and implementing programs to assist students in obtaining desired academic outcome(s).

 

Duties & Essential Job Functions:

1. Identification and implementation of academic support plans for students who have learning challenges by collaborating with academic counselors and faculty to design and implement academic success plans .
2. Recommends a course of action by providing services, policies, procedures and informational material related to student with learning challenges.
3. Supports academic programs by providing skill techniques, time management and related academic information to students; evaluating students’ academic abilities and skills; assisting students in developing academic success plans.
4. Collects and tracks data to provide insight and recommendations to assess and evaluate student success interventions and programs.
5. Conducts guided study sessions for upper division nursing courses and develops student success workshops.
6. Coordinates academic and life skills coaching for prelicensure nursing students.
7. Oversees development of individualized student remediation plans and completion across the nursing program.
8. Serves as a liaison between students, faculty, Harris Academic Resource Center, and other campus services.
9. Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

Required Education & Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.
• 2 years’ experience in higher education or related field, including identifying students struggling academically, including coordinating and developing programming, teaching and/or tutoring of at-risk students.

 

Preferred Education & Experience:

• Master's degree in Nursing

• Knowledge to teach study skills and time management techniques.
• Knowledge of curriculum and degree requirements.

• Knowledge to establish and maintain databases.
• Skill of People Soft or equivalent data records system.
• Skill in some or all components of Microsoft Office.

• Ability to clearly communicate information.
• Ability to draft grammatically correct correspondence.
• Ability to interact with students.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.

Physical Requirements (With or Without Accommodations):

• Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms and other printed materials and information.
• Able to speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation and general communication.
• Hearing ability for verbal communication/conversation/responses via telephone, telephone systems, and face-to-face interactions.
• Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing and reaching, flexibility, body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling and prolonged sitting.
• Lifting and moving objects and equipment up to 10 lbs.

 

Work Environment:

• Work is indoors and sedentary and is subject to schedule changes and/or variable work hours.
• This role is an on campus, in-person position.
• There are no harmful environmental conditions present for this job.
• The noise level in this work environment is usually moderate.
