Job Summary:

The Postal Assistant is responsible for transmitting communications by distributing and dispatching mail.

Duties & Essential Job Functions:

1. Distributes mail by retrieving or receiving items from post office and delivery services; opening and sorting by addressee, destination, and type; delivering items.
2. Complies with postal service and delivery service requirements by preparing outgoing mail for delivery.
3. Provides mail and parcel delivery services by selling postage at post office window, weighing packages; certifying, registering, and insuring mail for customers.
4. Complies with Federal regulations by preparing bank deposits; reconciling receipts and disbursements; preparing accompanying forms and reports.
5. Maintains post office rental boxes by processing rental forms and billing information.
6. Trains staff by reviewing postal regulations with staff; contributing to on-the-job training; demonstrating operation of equipment; acting as resource person.
7. Maintains records by scheduling, validating, and entering data; verifying data entry for accuracy, auditing and troubleshooting problems with address changes.
8. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• 1 year of office or retail experience.

Required Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training:

• Valid Texas Driver's License.
• Must be insurable under the university motor vehicle requirements.
• Satisfactory results from post-offer physical examinations.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Knowledge of customer service techniques.
• Knowledge of accuracy with numeric skills.
• Ability to operate a computer using basic software.
• Ability to clearly communicate information.

Physical Requirements (With or Without Accommodations):

• Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms and other printed materials and information.
• Able to speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation and general communication.
• Hearing ability for verbal communication/conversation/responses via telephone, telephone systems, and face-to-face interactions.
• Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing and reaching, flexibility, body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling, climbing ladders and stairs, and prolonged sitting.
• Lifting and moving objects and equipment up to 65 lbs.

Work Environment:

• Work is indoors and not sedentary and is subject to schedule changes and/or variable work hours.
• This is an in-person, on-campus role.
• There are no harmful environmental conditions present for this job.
• The noise level in this work environment is usually moderate.
