Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse is responsible for providing professional nursing skills in the care and treatment of the college student population by Adhering to standard practices of the profession and following special instructions from medical and nursing supervisors.

Duties & Essential Job Functions:

1. Provides patient care by assessing the patient’s condition; initiating emergency procedures, if needed; documenting/charting information for the physician; administering injections; preparing the patient for exam; assisting the physicians whenever possible; collecting specimens for laboratory testing.
2. Promotes knowledge of health and wellness by educating the patient by providing appropriate information; counseling patients.
3. Documents information by recording/charting vital statistics and other information for the physician.
4. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:

• Completion of a Diploma School of Nursing or a B.S. in Nursing from an accredited program.
• A minimum of 5 years nursing experience.

Preferred Education & Experience:

• None

Required Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training:

• Valid, current license as a professional nurse registered by the Texas State Board of Nursing; current CPR certification; 20 hours every 2 years of continuing education credits, as required for licensure.

• None

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Knowledge to safeguard patient privacy.
• Skill to screen and triage clinic patients.
• Ability to provide prompt and effectual emergency care.
• Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records and charts.
• Ability to assist the Health Center team in providing care of the college age patient.

Physical Requirements (With or Without Accommodations):

• Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms and other printed materials and information.
• Able to speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation and general communication.
• Hearing ability for verbal communication/conversation/responses via telephone, telephone systems, and face-to-face interactions.
• Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing and reaching, flexibility, body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling and prolonged sitting.
• Lifting and moving objects and equipment up to 10 lbs.

Work Environment:

• Work is indoors and sedentary and is subject to schedule changes and/or variable work hours.
• There are no harmful environmental conditions present for this job.
• The noise level in this work environment is usually moderate.
