Senior Accountant – Financial Reporting

Job Summary:

The Senior Accountant - Financial Reporting is responsible for providing accounting support for the University through: record preparation, research, and reporting related to general ledger activities, month-end closing activities fixed asset accounting, reconciliation of accounts as directed, financial-related reports, schedules, audits, and other areas when needed. This person will record daily and monthly transactional activity while adhering to GAAP and Texas Christian University accounting policies.

Duties & Essential Job Functions:

1. Maintains fixed asset accounting records by identifying and recording fixed asset acquisitions, disposals, and depreciation.
2. Reviews invoices, prepares entries and performs monthly reconciliations for University fixed assets.
3. Accumulates and analyzes construction-in-progress data.
4. Calculates and records various data for the department included monthly depreciation and interest on qualified fixed assets under construction.
5. Serves as fixed asset accounting contact for other University departments.
6. Assists in monthly financial close process by preparing and submitting journal entries.
7. Reviews and approves monthly reconciliations and journal entries prepared by accounting staff.
8. Performs monthly account reconciliations and review of general ledger accounts and funds for accuracy.
9. Assists with preparation of monthly and year-end financial statements and related note disclosures.
10. Prepares schedules and workpapers for annual external audit. Responds to auditors’ requests and provides supporting documentation as requested.
11. Responds to financial surveys from third parties and other external requests for financial information.
12. Assists with maintaining the general ledger chart of accounts for financial reporting.
13. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting
• 3 plus years of accounting/auditing experience

Preferred Education & Experience:

• PeopleSoft system experience.
• Public accounting audit experience.
• Grant/Research accounting experience.

Required Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training:

• None

Preferred Licensure, Certification, and/or Specialized Training:

• CPA license.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Skill in both written and oral communication.
• Skill in the use of Microsoft Office to include Word, Excel and Outlook.
• Ability to independently extract, research, and analyze financial data and develop recommendations.
• Ability to effectively manage multiple broad projects.
• Ability to review detailed financial transactions for accuracy and appropriateness.

• Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms and other printed materials and information.
• Able to speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation and general communication.
• Hearing ability for verbal communication/conversation/responses via telephone, telephone systems, and face-to-face interactions.
• Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing and reaching, flexibility, body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling, and prolonged sitting.
• Lifting and moving objects and equipment up to 10 lbs.

Work Environment:

• Work is indoors and sedentary and is subject to schedule changes and/or variable work hours.
• There are no harmful environmental conditions present for this job.
• This role is an on campus, in-person position.
• The noise level in this work environment is usually moderate.
