Job Summary:

The Senior Accountant - Property Accounting is responsible for providing accounting support for the University’s properties through: record preparation, research, and reporting related to general ledger activities, month-end closing activities fixed asset accounting, reconciliation of accounts as directed, financial-related reports, schedules, audits, and other areas when needed. This person will record daily and monthly transactional activity while adhering to GAAP and Texas Christian University accounting policies.

 

Duties & Essential Job Functions:

1. Performs accounting activities and maintains accounting records for a portfolio of commercial, retail and mixed-use real estate properties
2. Reviews and reconciles various data related to the university property for accuracy and appropriateness including, but not limited to: monthly and quarterly property expenses, new leases and lease amendments, and executed lease documents/abstracts
3. Creates and adjusts various financial schedules based on a thorough understanding of lease terms
4. Compiles and analyzes financial information in preparation for entry into various financial statements and accounting reports. Makes appropriate journal entries for recording in the general ledger by checking calculations, reviewing basis for figures, and balancing and reconciling figures
5. Reviews invoices, maintains records, prepares entries, and performs monthly reconciliations for fixed assets related to property.
6. Compiles financial documents and records for audits, reviews, and tax return preparation
7. Manages all lease accounting including journal entries, reconciliation, preparation of reports and summaries, and preparation of year-end financial statement footnote.
8. Manages deposits from commercial businesses that rent space on TCU property and generates monthly Rent Roll. Reviews all rental property income for accuracy.
9. Capitalizes all real estate transactions for the university.
10. Completes various financial, accounting, administrative, and other reports and analysis.
11. Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

Required Education & Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting
• 3 years’ experience in accounting/auditing

 

Preferred Education & Experience:

• PeopleSoft system experience.
• Public accounting audit experience.
• Property Accounting specific experience

 

Required Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training:

• None

 

Preferred Licensure, Certification, and/or Specialized Training:

• CPA license

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Skill in both written and oral communication.
• Skill in the use of Microsoft Office to include Word, Excel and Outlook.
• Ability to independently extract, research, and analyze financial data and develop recommendations.
• Ability to effectively manage multiple broad projects and facilitate multiple priorities.
• Ability to review detailed financial transactions for accuracy and appropriateness.
• Knowledge of current applicable law, and federal and state guidelines, regarding property finances
• Knowledge of PeopleSoft, Concur and Jaggaer
• Skill in organization.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as a member of a team.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision and under tight deadlines.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion.

Physical Requirements (With or Without Accommodations):

• Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms and other printed materials and information.
• Able to speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation and general communication.
• Hearing ability for verbal communication/conversation/responses via telephone, telephone systems, and face-to-face interactions.
• Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing and reaching, flexibility, body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling and prolonged sitting.
• Lifting and moving objects and equipment up to 10 lbs.

 

Work Environment:

• Work is indoors and sedentary and is subject to schedule changes and/or variable work hours.
• This role is an on campus, in-person position.
• There are no harmful environmental conditions present for this job.
• The noise level in this work environment is usually moderate.
