Job Summary:

The Librarian I (Web Services) is responsible for creating and maintaining library web sites and applications, assisting with upgrades and enhancements of online systems, assisting other library staff with creating accessible online content, and creating and troubleshooting integrations between various 3rd party library software products.

 

Duties & Essential Job Functions:

1. Develops and maintains accessible public and staff websites using local files and scripts and 3rd party content management systems.
2. Trains and assists library staff with development and maintenance of web content. Consults with staff on special projects as requested.
3. Develops and maintains solutions to support faculty and student activities such as online journal publishing, research data management, and web exhibits.
4. Evaluates library online interfaces for usability and WCAG accessibility standards compliance.
5. Monitors developments in the field by participating in professional organizations and training opportunities; keeps other library staff informed of important technology issues; suggests enhancements to other library services as appropriate.
6. Assists library staff with creating and troubleshooting integrations between various library software.
7. Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

Required Education & Experience:

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, MIS (Management Information Systems), or a closely related field, or an ALA-accredited Master’s in Library Science, and 0–1 year of related experience
OR
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS (Management Information Systems), or a closely related field, and 4–5 years of related experience

 

Preferred Education & Experience:

• Experience in a library environment
• Experience supporting technology in a higher education environment.
• Experience with open-source software development and troubleshooting.
• Experience creating database-driven applications using programming/scripting languages.
• Experience managing Windows and/or Linux servers.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Knowledge of Web development techniques, including an understanding of HTML, CSS, Javascript and user interface frameworks such as Bootstrap.
• Ability to apply deductive reasoning skills in troubleshooting computer software.
• Knowledge of using SQL To query and update relational databases.
• Understanding of web site usability and accessibility principles and testing.
• Ability to write clear documentation for library staff and end-users.
• Ability to perform software conversions and upgrades.
• Ability to apply customer service techniques.

• Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms and other printed materials and information.
• Able to speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation and general communication.
• Hearing ability for verbal communication/conversation/responses via telephone, telephone systems, and face-to-face interactions.
• Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing and reaching, flexibility, body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling and prolonged sitting.
• Lifting and moving objects and equipment up to 10 lbs.

 

Work Environment:

• Work is indoors and sedentary and is subject to schedule changes and/or variable work hours.
• There are no harmful environmental conditions present for this job.
• The noise level in this work environment is usually moderate.
• This role is an on campus, in-person position.
